Saturday, 01 August 2009 14:25

On a sunday morning that could only be described as BRRRRRRR, 21 drivers charged their batteries and readied cars for battle, the chill of the air couldnt chill the fire of racing in their veins. Novice, 540 pro, Stock, and Modified were well supported with Stock taking the most entries.

Novice qualifying got under way with Kristy Mountjoy, Jess White and Graham Seyfang contesting for the TQ honors. Kristy took first blood in Q1 winning by 3 laps but Jess struck back in Q2 to take the front of the grid for the mains while the others suffered from dramas.

Race 1. Jess comes out of the blocks like a demon, soaring home to record the first 16 lapper of the day, Kristy snapping at her heels only 6 secs behind followed by graham Seyfang.

Race 2. Once again Jess gets the holeshot leading from the line, but a slow first lap hands Kristy the lead and she hangs onto it to the finish, Jess only 3 secs behind followed By Graham.

Race 3. This is the sheep station round for Jess and Kristy, both sitting on equal points and the winner of this one will decide who gets top spot. Jess gets the jump off the grid but surrenders the lead before the end of lap 2, kristy leads for the next 2 laps until Jess starts laying down some blinders to snatch the lead back and then, disaster, Jess is out on Lap 4 while leading, giving Kristy the win and the round win with graham in second.

The mini class saw a return to Bendigo by its resident mini speedster Nathan Tasca. Mini guru Tony Gray joined in the action with Adrian henderson, Phill Clayton, Matt Wicks and graham Seyfang.
Qualifiying saw Matt lead the fray and lay down some fast laps while battles raged behind him. Tony was running well in 2nd until dramas drops him back to 4th, nathan and adrian slipping by. 2 laps later and Tony takes back 3rd from Adrian. Lap 12 and race leader matt is out of the race, handing the win to nathan. Adrian comes home in 2nd after Tonys race ends on lap 13 with Phil in 3rd. Tony, matt and graham ending in that order.
In Q2 it was all Nathan, grabbing an uncontested win and shaking out the cobwebs from a 6 month hiatus to get TQ.

Race 1.The siren sounds and Nathan never looks back leading all the way home to chalk up a first final win. Adrian runs in 2nd until Tony slips by on lap 3. The race finishes in that order with Phil taking 4th, graham taking 5th and Matt out on lap 6 taking 6th.

race 2.A shocker first lap sends nathan back to 4th and puts Phil in the lead. After fight his way back nathan takes the lead again on lap 6 from Phil with Tony in 3rd. lap 7 and Tony is out of the race handing 3rd to Adrian followed by Graham and thats how the race finshes. Matt failing to start with a broken car and out for the day.

Race 3.After getting a good start from the grid, Adrian is out with mechanical dramas on lap 5. Nathan leads at the end of the first lap and never gets headed taking the win, clean sweeping the finals and getting the round win. Phil and Tony commence a battle for 2nd and 3rd which ends with Tony out of the race on lap 7, leaving Phil to sail home in 2nd uncontested. 540 Pro followed. Allan Melton, Dave Bowen, Matt Henderson, brendan carrick and Leigh Wallace (making a return to racing) hitting the track for win pole.
Dave leads Q1 for most of the race until lap 12 sees him relegated to the rear and out with minor car trouble, leaving leigh to soar home for the win followed by Allan in 2nd and Brendon 3rd and matt 4th. Q2 finds leigh leading the pack with Allan in 2nd and Dave in 3rd. 4 laps in and Dave works his way into 1st and heads for home until car trouble ends his race on lap 9, with and ever consistant leigh grabbing the win followed by Allan, Brendan, and Matt. Leigh easily snatching TQ for the mains.

Race 1. Leigh gets away and leads start to finish with an ultra consistant race, dave coming through for 2nd from Allan in 3rd Brendan in 4th and Matt in 5th with car trouble.

Race 2. Once again leigh gets the lead off the grid and in an outlap which can only be described as a blinder scores the fastest lap and the only 17 sec lap for 540 for the day. Again ultra consistancy means he is never headed for the win and leaves him sitting pretty for the round. The minor places were fought out with Dave claiming 2nd from Allan 3 lasp from the finish, Allan taking 3rd from brendan followed by Matt, still suffering a mechanical issue.

Race 3. Leighs dream run continues win the lead until a slow lap 3 has Dave take over the front spot. lap 6, and Dave crashes slipping back to 3rd and leaving leigh and Allan to duke out the rest of the race. Both drivers put on an awesome display with Allan grabing the lead on lap 12 only to return it to Leigh the next lap. leigh takes it home to seal a dream run for the day with 5 from 5 but Allan finishes 2nd only .06 secs behind. Dave claims 3rd from Matt then brendan.

Stock Electric continues to garner support in Bendigo, field sizes growing every round. 7 drivers took part they were, matt Wicks, Dave Bowen, Wade griffin, Lyndon Turvey, Ron Passalick, Tim Forster, and Colin White.
Tim grabbed the first qualifyer from Wade and Colin. Matt and Lyndon showing plenty of speed but out with mechanical trouble. Q2 saw matt strike back and take the win. An awesome battle between the top 3, Matt, Lyndon and Tim saw them finish in that order after many position changes and only 8 secs apart from 1st to 3rd! Matt gets P1 for the mains

Race 1. Matt checks all the boxes. Speed to burn, car dialed, driver dialed end with the fastest race time for stock over the day and the only 22 lapper, with a 0.20 consistancy! Tim takes a hard fought 2nd from Lyndon. Dave takes 4th from Ron,Colin and Wade in that order.

Race 2. matt puts in another dialed run, never getting challenged for the win. Lyndon fights back from 4th to take 2nd from Tim on lap 8 and holds it to finish 7 secs behind Matt. Tim taking a consistant 3rd from Dave, Colin, Ron and Wade.

Race 3. Again it is the Matt show, getting away to an uncontested win and a clean sweep of the finals. Modified fielded 3 entries, local gun drivers Joe Ghiringhelli, Jamie O Brien and a return to racing for veteran Theo Theodorou.

Qualifying was swift with jamie laying down the gauntlet to take the win by a lap over Joe and Theo. Joe fought back in Q2 winning by a lap over Jamie, but Jamies Q1 race time was good enough to get him grid spot number 1.

Race 1. Jamie gets the holeshot and leads Joe for 2 laps until Joe gets past and heads for the sunset with an ultra consistant race. Jamie sails home for 2nd only 5 secs behind and Theo in 3rd.

Race 2. jamie gets a good start and leads Joe off the grid. For 13 laps Joe shadows Jamie until a tyre comes loose and causes joe to limp the car home in 2nd 2 laps down with Theo in 3rd

Race 3. This is the decider. OOnce again Jamie leads the cars away on the first lap and some very close racing ensues. Joe briefly captures the lead on lap 6, but a slow lap 8 lets Jamie back in the door and he takes it home for the race and round win, Joe only 3 secs behind. Theo taking the final podium spot.
